Foster

Fostering a dog can be a very rewarding experience. You get to spend time with a grateful animal that enriches your life without the full commitment of ownership. When you foster with Sylvester's Haven you should be ready for a German Shepherd. Most German Shepherds have higher pack drive which means they want to be with you. A German Shepherd will follow you around no matter where you go. They come to the bathroom with you if you let them (you don't have to) but will happily wait for you outside the door if that's what you prefer. Having a German Shepherd in your home is awesome and who knows, you may just for fall in love with your foster dog and want to become its new forever home. Our fosters always have the first right of adoption.

As a foster you will be responsible to take care of your foster dog. You will be in charge of its food and routine medical care (there are exceptions). German Shepherds need exercise and mental stimulation so we are looking for active fosters who can provide at least a sixty minute walk a day and have enough time for a companion. We expect our dogs to be part of your family while in your care, which means sharing your home with you and not be confined to a yard.

Fostering is a temporary activity but we are looking for a minimum commitment of three months to consider applications. Once we receive your request we will review your information, speak with your references and conduct first a phone interview and then a home check with you. We want to make sure we fully understand what you are looking for so we can pair you with the best possible foster dog.
